Chocolate...

The earliest record of chocolate was over fifteen hundred years ago in the Central American rain forests, where the tropical mix of high rain fall combined with high year round temperatures and humidity provide the ideal climate for cultivation of the plant from which chocolate is derived, the Cacao Tree. The Cacao Tree was worshipped by the Mayan civilisation of Central America and Southern Mexico, who believed it to be of divine origin, Cacao is actually a Mayan word meaning "God Food" hence the tree's modern generic Latin name 'Theobrama Cacao' meaning ‘Food of the Gods’. Cacao was corrupted into the more familiar 'Cocoa' by the early European explorers. The Maya brewed a spicy, bitter sweet drink by roasting and pounding the seeds of the Cacao tree (cocoa beans) with maize and Capsicum (Chilli) peppers and letting the mixture ferment. This drink was reserved for use in ceremonies as well as for drinking by the wealthy and religious elite, they also ate a Cacao porridge. The Aztecs of central Mexico also prized the beans, but because the Aztec's lived further north in more arid regions at higher altitudes, where the climate was not suitable for cultivation of the tree, they had to acquire the beans through trade and/or the spoils of war. The Aztecs prized the beans so highly they used them as currency - 100 beans bought a Turkey or a slave - and tribute or Taxes were paid in cocoa beans to Aztec emperors. The Aztecs, like the Mayans, also enjoyed Cacao as a beverage fermented from the raw beans, which again featured prominently in ritual and as a luxury available only to the very wealthy. The Aztecs called this drink Xocolatl, the Spanish conquistadors found this almost impossible to pronounce and so corrupted it to the easier 'Chocolat', the English further changed this to Chocolate. The Aztec's regarded chocolate as an aphrodisiac and their Emperor, Montezuma reputedly drank it fifty times a day from a golden goblet and is quoted as saying of Xocolatl: "The divine drink, which builds up resistance and fights fatigue. A cup of this precious drink permits a man to walk for a whole day without food" In fact, the Aztec's prized Xocolatl well above Gold and Silver so much so, thatwhen Montezuma was defeated by Cortez in 1519 and the victorious 'conquistadors' searched his palace for the Aztec treasury expecting to find Gold & Silver, all they found were huge quantities of cocoa beans. The Aztec Treasury consisted, not of precious metals, but Cocoa Beans. About the Chocolate in Europe. It is Xocolatl or Chocolat or Chocolate as it became known, was brought to Europe by Cortez, by this time the conquistadors had learned to make the drink more palatable to European tastes by mixing the ground roasted beans with sugar and vanilla (a practice still continued today), thus offsetting the spicy bitterness of the brew the Aztec's drank. The first chocolate factories opened in Spain, where the dried fermented beans brought back from the new world by the Spanish treasure fleets were roasted and ground, and by the early 17th century chocolate powder - from which the European version of the drink was made - was being exported to other parts of Europe. The Spanish kept the source of the drink - the beans - a secret for many years, so successfully in fact, that when English buccaneers boarded what they thought was a Spanish 'Treasure Galleon' in 1579, only to find it loaded with what appeared to be 'dried sheep's droppings', they burned the whole ship in frustration. If only they had known, chocolate was so expensive at that time, that it was worth it's weight in Silver (if not Gold), Chocolate was Treasure Indeed! Within a few years, the Cocoa beverage made from the powder produced in Spain had become popular throughout Europe, in the Spanish Netherlands, Italy, France, Germany and - in about 1520 - it arrived in England. The first Chocolate House in England opened in London in 1657 followed rapidly by many others. Like the already well established coffee houses, they were used as clubs where the wealthy and business community met to smoke a clay pipe of tobacco, conduct business and socialise over a cup of chocolate. And the most popular are The Quakers. The Quakers were, and still are, a pacifist religious sect, an offshoot of the Puritans of English Civil War and Pilgrim Fathers fame and a history of chocolate would not be complete without mentioning their part in it. Some of the most famous names in chocolate were Quakers, who for centuries held a virtual monopoly of chocolate making in the English speaking world - Fry, Cadbury and Rowntree are probably the best known. It's probably before the time of the English civil war between Parliament and King Charles 1st, that the Quaker's, who evolved from the Puritans, first began their historic association with Chocolate. Because of their pacifist religion, they were prohibited from many normal business activities, so as an industrious people with a strong belief in the work ethic, they involved themselves in food related businesses and did very well. Baking was a common occupation for them because bread was regarded as the biblical " Staff Of Life", and Bakers in England were the first to add chocolate to cakes so it would be a natural progression for them to start making pure chocolate. They were also heavily involved in breakfast cereals but that's another story. What is certain is that the Fry, Rowntree and Cadbury families in England among others, began chocolate making and in fact Joseph Fry of Fry & Sons is credited with producing and selling the worlds first chocolate bar. Fry's have now all but disappeared (taken over by Cadbury) and Rowntree have merged Swiss company Nestle, to form the largest chocolate manufacturer in the world. Cadbury have stayed with chocolate production and are now, if not quite the largest, probably one of the best known Chocolate makers in the world. From their earliest beginnings in business the Quakers were noted for their enlightened treatment of their employees, providing not just employment but everything needed for workers to better themselves such as good housing etc. In fact, Cadbury built a large town for their employees around their factory near Birmingham, England. Complete with libraries, schools, shops and Churches etc, they called it Bourneville. So next time you see Cadbury's chocolate with the name Bournville on it you will know where it comes from and what the name relates to.

H1N1...

The current H1N1 swine flu strain has genetic roots in an illness that sickened pigs at the 1918 Cedar Rapids Swine Show in Iowa, report infectious disease experts at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health in the New England Journal of Medicine. Their paper, published online today and slated for the July 16 print issue, describes H1N1's nearly century-long and often convoluted journey, which may include the accidental resurrection of an extinct strain."At the same time the 1918 flu pandemic was rapidly spreading among humans, pigs were hit with a respiratory illness that closely resembled symptoms seen in people," said senior author Donald S. Burke, M.D., dean, University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. "Early experiments confirmed that this 1918 swine virus and a human strain emerged about the same time. Since then, this ancestor virus has re-assorted genetically with other influenza strains at least four times, leading to the emergence of the new 2009 strain, which has retained some similarities to the original virus." In the paper, Dr. Burke and lead author Shanta M. Zimmer, M.D., assistant professor, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, describe the temporary "extinction" of the H1N1 virus from humans in 1957 and its subsequent re-emergence 20 years later. They note a small 230-person outbreak of H1N1 in 1976 among soldiers in Fort Dix, New Jersey that did not extend outside the military base. Then, H1N1 influenza re-emerged in 1977 among people in the former Soviet Union, Hong Kong and northeastern China. Careful study of the genetic origin of the 1977 strain showed that it was not the Fort Dix strain, but, surprisingly, was related closely to a 1950 human strain. Given the genetic similarity of these strains, re-emergence was likely due to an accidental release during laboratory studies of the 1950 strain that had been preserved as a 'freezer' virus, they said. The authors hypothesize that concerns about the Fort Dix outbreak stimulated a flurry of research on H1N1 viruses in 1976, which led to an accidental release and re-emergence of the previously extinct virus a year later. The re-emerged 1977 H1N1 strain has continued to circulate among humans as seasonal flu for the past 32 years. Although originally traced to Mexico, the exact physical origins of the 2009 H1N1 pandemic virus are unknown. Because the current strain shares common ancestry with older flu strains, it is possible that portions of the population may have partial immunity to the new pandemic virus. The authors also go on to explain that the danger posed by a virus isn't based solely on its lethality, but also on its transmissibility, which is the ability to jump from animals to humans and to survive by mutating to adapt to its new human host. H1N1 influenza viruses have demonstrated this ability throughout their history. "Studying the history of emergence and evolution of flu viruses doesn't provide us with a blueprint for the future, but it does reveal general patterns, and this kind of information is critical if we are to be as prepared as possible," said Dr. Burke.

All about Hip-Hop

Hip-hop music or rap music is an admired and famous style or genre of music in the USA. This well-known music genre is made up of two components, rapping and record scratching. Rapping is also known as MCing and DJing, which comprises of audio mixing. These two main components combined with graffiti and break dancing form the four core elements of hip-hop.Hip-hop was initiated as a cultural movement by inner-city youth, mostly Latinos, Hispanics, and African Americans in New York City, in the early seventies. The word "rap" was derived in the sixties, from a slang word that meant conversation.Hip-hop has two main historical eras, the old school hip-hop era from 1970-1985 and the golden age hip-hop era from 1985-1993. The golden age of hip-hop began only when it entered the mainstream of music and it consolidated the sounds of the West Coast and the East Coast. The origin of hip-hop music is from African American and West African music. Contributions of griots like The Last Poets, Jalal Mansur Nurriddin, and Gil Scott-Heron were significant in a big way for the advent of hip-hop in the 1960s. Hip-hop had originally begun in the Bronx. Funk and soul music were played a lot in block parties. In the beginning, the DJs at these parties began separating the percussion breaks from hit songs. They started realizing that these breaks were more entertaining and groovy. This technique had become widespread in Jamaica and had spread considerably in the New York community via the Jamaican immigrants.Kool DJ Herc and Grandmaster Flash were the pioneers in the hip-hop industry and other DJs had extended the short percussion interludes of funk records and created a more danceable sound. As a result, remixes had become popular with the advent of mixing and scratching techniques. Many styles of hip-hop had developed in the golden age of hip-hop.At present, hip-hop is enjoyed all around the world. In spite, of all the controversies created by hip-hop artists they are still growing in number. Hip-hop music is sold all over the world in stores and even online.Hip Hop provides detailed information on Hip Hop, Hip Hop And Rap, Hip Hop Music, R&B Hip Hop and more.

History of Cigarette...

It is believed that the origin of cigarette took place in America. The production of tobacco began in America, where people started consuming its leaves for smoking and chewing. The first users were considered to be of Maya civilization in Central America. The people of Aztecs in South America followed suite and crushed tobacco leaves, wrapped them in corn husks to smoke. This was more popular during religious ceremonies, which is attributed to the fact that priests and deities were shown smoking through pipes on the local pottery of the region.
The art of smoking gradually spread across the nations of South and North America. In the early 17th century in Spain, the corn husk was replaced by paper, spreading the custom of smoking the cigarette to a number of nations. During 1830s, cigarettes reached France, where its name was born. The present popular word ‘cigarette’ is actually the French adaptation of the Spanish word ‘sigarito’. In 1850, Turkish leaves were introduced, which became very popular in Russia. The cigarette was brought to the English world after Crimean War.
During the war, British soldiers learnt the art of smoking and after returning to England, spread the custom throughout the country. Owing to its widespread demand, a London tobacconist, Philip Morris started manufacturing cigarettes in 1854, which is a popular name now. The cigarettes were hand rolled during this time and a good roller in a factory could roll about 40 cigarettes a minute. However, in US, the manufacturing did not begin until 1864. The first person was seen smoking in 1868, who was inspired by a soldier.
The manufacturing leader of the country was F. S. Kenney Co. of New York. The growing demand of the product led to the invention of first cigarette making machine in 1879. In effect, the sales of the product reached heights by the end of 1889. The cigarettes prepared during this time were primarily made of light tobacco to which slight Turkish brand was added for flavor and aroma. From 1900 to 1910, the Turkish tobacco dominated the market scenario as it was highly popular.
During this time, the market comprised of around 200 different cigarette brands, which enjoyed only regional popularity. There was no sole American brand in the market and the Turkish tobacco was quite expensive. The rise in the cigarette sales was once again achieved, when J Reynolds used Prince Albert smoking tobacco in cigarettes, containing high dose of Burley and named it as Camel. The brand gained immense popularity and became the first all American brand. Along with this, the other two contemporary brands Lucky Strike and Chesterfield also caught on.
In 1922, the Tobacco Tax Law fixed the weight of the tobacco at 1361 mg per cigarette, thereby also determining the modern day size. By 1930s and 40s, the other brands which became popular were Old Gold, Raleigh and Philip Morris. However, the success story experienced a twist in 1950s, when various studies conducted on smoking indicated that consumption of tobacco was harmful. As a result, many large companies started manufacturing ‘safer’ cigarettes, which claimed to contain low-tar, low-nicotine content along with filters.
In 1954, R. J Reynolds manufactured the first filtered cigarette under the brand name Winston. In 1956, the first filtered cigarette with menthol, named Salem was introduced. In 1962, Kent brand was launched, which had ‘micronit filter’, containing asbestos. In 1968, many companies tried to sell cigarettes, which did not contain tobacco. These primarily contained lettuce leaves and were named Brave, but did not catch on. In 1980s and 90s, the cigarette manufacturing companies marketed their products extensively in other countries.

The developing countries of Asia were specifically aimed. This period saw Marlboro being ranked as the top brand in the world, as its sales exceeded Coca Cola’s. On the contrary, during 1980s smoking was being considered socially as well as politically ‘incorrect’. Even cigarette ads were withdrawn from radio and television programs, surviving only in other concealed forms. However, in the 21st century, the society has become more acceptable and mature. Though it acts as a watchdog, informing people regarding the harmful effects of smokingand also aspires to protect teenagers

from indulging into addiction, it even provides ample space to the ones who wish to experience the abstract euphoria.

Peace...

There have been numerous wars and armed conflicts throughout the history of mankind. The use of violence as a means to settle conflicts was most clearly seen in the two world wars of this century where millions of lives were lost in a conflict over seemingly puerile issues which could have been resolved b peaceful negotiation. Many people are sceptical at the prospect of everlasting peace and their cynicism leads them to scoff at others who wish for peace in the world. I strongly feel that cynical people who do not believe in peace are basically just too jaded about life. Their failure to appreciate the desire for peace stems not form a strong conviction against its possibility, but, rather from a fear that they would be seen as a weak and idealistic people. It is such so-called 'realistic' and 'rational' people who prevent peace from becoming a reality, as they feel that violence is justified and necessary. If everybody is willing to work out conflict by consensus and discussion, than war becomes absolutely unnecessary. Imagine two world leaders at opposite fronts, but who are, nevertheless, both committed to peace. The very probability of conflict and war between them and their parties would become much lower, if not none at all. If however, only one of them is sceptical and cynical over prospects of peace than he may opt for the easy way out; which is to wage war. The ideal has to be firmly believed before it can become a reality. If Columbus never believed in the New Land, then he would never have stumbled across America. It is absolutely important that a person should hope and believe that peace is a possibility for it to become reality. If no one in the world talks about peace, then it would never come about. Only by taking this first step of convincing ourselves on the possibility of world peace, can we move forward and create more concrete measures to make it a reality. Although wars have occurred frequently throughout human history, it does not mean that it has to be a permanent feature forever. Instead, we should try to change and adapt so that progress of the entire human race can be achieved. All we have to do is hope and believe. And,always want to be peaceful everyday don't care what time is it.
~PEACE~

The Importance of Water

Water brings and sustains life in our planet. Water is something which we cannot do without only it is not available. After all, our bodies are made up of seventy percent water. It is quiet possible to survive without food for more than a month, but without water we will perish in matter of days. Remember the ancient mariner's cry of agony and despair in Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem??

'Water,water,everywhere,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water,water,everywhere,
Nor any drop to drink.'

This verse of the poem clearly points to the absolute need of suitable drinking water for survival. The mariner, being the only survivor left on his ship, is desperately lost at sea for months. Having used up all the ship/s store of drinkable water, he laments on his plight: surrounded by water on all sides, but a not a drop drink! Water is essential to life. We require water for washing, cooking, cultivating our fields, and most importantly, for drinking. Life becomes impossible on earth without water. Imagine a drought situation: there are no rains, the river and lakes have dried up and all plant-life dry and wasted. In such a situation, the Grim Reaper becomes exceedingly busy, for water is life giving and every living organism, without exception, requires water for its existence. Dehydration spells, without mistake, certain, inescapable death. When we read about the origins of life on this planet, we realise at once the important role water had played in causing living things to come into existence. Life began, or so geologists and scientist say, in the watery oceans. Water has those unique chemical elements and properties needed to nourish the living cells of living beings. Apart from the glaringly obvious fact that water is essential to life, water is also man's most precious resource. Water is a source of energy. Water converted into steam can be used as fuel for driving vehicles fitted with steam engines. Electricity can also be generated with water power. In fact, about a third of the world's electricity comes from hydroelectric power plants. And this form of power supply is cheap since water free and running costs of a hydroelectric power plant is much cheaper compared to the other types of power plants. The importance of water can in no measure be minimized. It is not only a source of life and energy, it also sustains life on the planet. We should all be duty bound to ensure that our sources of water remain unpolluted.

The Importance of English Language

Sometime in the late eighties of the last millennium,we left the Industrial Age behind and crossed over to the age of Information Technology. The computer has revolutionised our lives and the way we think. This technological wonder, which was once used by only the richest companies and wealthiest governments, has become part and parcel of almost every individual in a developed or developing country. Due to this fact, the use of the English language has catapulted to the pinnacle of languages used in a modern society as it is, after all,the choice medium of most computer system. Common programming languages for the computer like C++ and web authoring languages like Java use pseudo English. Propagation of news, ideas, opinions and views on the Internet are mostly English. Besides this, the United States where most technological advancements and latest scientific reseach take place, use English to document their discoveries. This has also led to the massive increase in new English words which many other languages had to borrow to keep up with the latest developments. For examples; the words computer, Internet and cyber have no equivalents in most Asian languages. I know for a fact that these words have been borrowed by at least two Asian language: the Japanese and Malay languages. The old Latin maxim scientiq as potentia or knowledge is power cannot be any truer than it is today. The Industrial Age demands each and every individual to be well-informed of current developments and latest discoveries across the globe. In this English help us, like no other language can, to study all branches oof knowledge available. It would not be an overstatement if I say that there is practically no subject that cannot be learnt in English. Many thousands of book have been written on just about every subject under the sun and hundreds more are being appended to this bulk everyday in various parts of the world to propagate ideas, information and knowledge. Finally, the English language also used to spread friendship and goodwill among countries. English has become the most important and effective means of communication among countries. Even world leaders use English to spread better understanding and friendship among nations. These are the reasons why I thinking that English is an important language. Everyone should learn it because it is very important.

Is it backstabber??

In this topic,I didn't mean my ex girl. But, just only my passing time when I was in secondary school.
Now and past time are different. It is because at the past,I always say 'I choose a good person
don't care it about friend or sweet girlfriend'. But,f0r now you just like not important in my life.Don't know why, until now I still remember you also I hate you. I know that are different type of feeling.Like a crazy person who remember and hate at the same time. Its so funny when I call you rubbish or stupid. At the past of time, I always help you when you have a problem.Like money, family, friends, boyfriend or girlfriend, fighting or the others. That's why I would help you even you have a problem because I know you.But you never say 'thanks' to me even I do my best.I know you happy with me but why you must go and leave me alone?? When I get angry and I want to fight with you,you just said that I'm a bad boy like the other guy that know you.Just remember, who help you when you got a problem, when you sad, when you broken heart, when you run from your home.It was me!! But,when you start doing bad for me,you always be flint to me,my best friend and my sweet honey. Both of them also stupid to listen what are you talking about me.So,at the same time,I lost my lovely honey,I lost my best friend. It because of you my enemy.Maybe,I never forgive you until my last breath because I hate you so much. You also back stabber and hypocrite person. Why you do this to me?? When you think you are the winner, you start again and talk something bad about me.That time,I never let you go because I think I want to punch your head until you passed away. But I'm now the evil that like to kill people.I know who I am and I know who are you. When you start again talk something about me, I'm very angry and the big fight was begin. I know, about talking maybe you win,but about the one on one,the gentleman fight, you lost because you like a transvestite. When you know you are loser, you make a report to discipline teacher that I'm start everything. You know, your attitude like children but at the same time we are in secondary school. And be a senior for other students. When the case are closed, we like don't know each other and I don't care about you,I don't care about my ex girlfriend also I dint care about my ex best friend because I know you will give poison to them. So,I don't care about three of you anymore because three of you like rubbish for me. When the big exam was start, you come to see me and say 'I'm sorry for what I did for you'. At the time, I was accept your apologies but in my heart I never accept it because you are nothing for me anymore until I die and you are my enemy. After the big exam, the girl who was be my girlfriend at the past want me to be his hubby again. But I don't accept her because I'm think maybe single is good for our life until I'm finish my diploma. And my ex best friend just saying 'sorry for everything,go on with your life and find another friend that you think good for you'. Now,when I start my college life, I want to be my self that always happy and like to start other people angry. Don't care if they have hot temper because I'm also hot temper person and don't like back stabber also hypocrites person. For me,the past time that happen for me are teaching me how to choose a true person to be your friend or sweet girlfriend.I hope, this not happen again.I love all my friends.

That's all...
